In the world of triple-net REITs, most of the attention in the past week has been on the planned merger of American Capital Realty Properties (ARCP) and Cole Real Estate Investments (COLE). I recently wrote about ARCP, noting that the REIT had seen heavy insider buying over the summer at prices higher than today. I also recommended the stock based on its growth prospects within a sector I love and its high dividend yield — 6.7% at today prices.
ARCP fell on the news on the COLE merger, which is typical for the acquiring firm (as a general rule, the acquirer falls and the acquired rises). But I continue to see value in REITs and ARCP in particular.
Today, however, I want to highlight other insider buying for REITs, namely, in a competitor of ARCP and COLE:Stag Industrial (STAG).
The scale of the insider buying of STAG is considerably smaller than that of ARCP. But its scope is every bit as wide, as six company officers have made purchases in the past quarter. As you can see from STAG insider trading history, the company officers have been steadily and consistently accumulating the shares over the past year.

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images Time Warner Cable's flirtation with potential merger suitors may include Comcast, which is seeking advice on possible regulatory hurdles if it should pursue a bid, sources told CNBC on Friday. Comcast (CMCSA) (CMCSK), the parent company of CNBC, is not in active discussions on deal terms with Time Warner Cable (TWC), these sources say, but is asking for guidance on antitrust and telecommunications-related issues. According to people familiar with the matter, TWC has made it clear that if it should sell itself, Comcast would be its preferred buyer. These people add that Comcast has been quietly mulling a merger with TWC for some time. The cable operator is on the verge of a bid from Charter Communications (CHTR), according to The Wall Street Journal, which said Charter is near an agreement with banks for the funds to make that offer. Analysts, however, say Time Warner's needs may be better suited with Comcast. "The synergies are very real, and Comcast would be a better fit," said Craig Moffett, founder and senior analyst at MoffettNathanson. He said that while the Department of Justice's anti-trust requirements may not pose an insurmountable challenge, the more stringent litmus test might come from the Federal Communications Commission.

AP Photo/Universal OrlandoAn artist's rendering of the new Diagon Alley area at Universal Orlando Resort this summer. Harry Potter is the boy wizard who keeps on giving for the Universal Orlando resort in Florida. The theme park operator -- owned by Comcast (CMCSK) -- hosted "A Celebration of Harry Potter" this past weekend, inviting guests to interact with actors from the popular movie series. Attendees were also treated to an exhibit showcasing movie props and received training in wand dueling. There was even a "Sorting Hat" experience. However, the highlight of the experience may have taken place on the eve of the three-day affair when Universal hosted a celebrity-backed webcast detailing the ambitious expansion of its Potter-themed attractions. Two Parks Are Better Than One It's been four years since Universal opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure theme park. Debuting at a time when J.K. Rowling's franchise was still near the peak of its frenzied fandom, some guests had to wait more than 10 hours to get into richly themed section of the park fashioned after the series' Hogsmeade Village. It was a hit. Attendance at the park spiked a whopping 30 percent in 2010. That's an unheard of increase for the theme park industry, but the appeal of sipping Butterbeer, stepping into Ollivander's for a magic wand demonstration, and hopping on a thrill ride inside Hogwarts was too tempting for tourists to pass up. Later this year, Universal will recreate London's Diagon Alley at the adjacent Universal Studios Florida theme park. An ride aboard the Hogwarts Express will connect the two areas. Beyond exploring the shops and watering holes that Rowling originally imagined, a thrill ride awaits inside Gringotts Bank, the cornerstone of the new land that's even topped by a fire-breathing dragon. Disney Fights Back The jump in attendance wasn't contagious through Central Florida when the Potter attraction first opened. Sure

Surprisingly, our energy boom could help China, but not in the way you might think. The energy sector in the U.S. has been an incubator for innovative drilling techniques and technologies over the past few years. Now we have a near monopoly on the technology. Like the U.S., China has massive shale gas deposits, and the technology we possess could help them develop domestic sources and allow them to become more energy self-sufficient. We're starting to see it happen. Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS-A ) has signed a deal with PetroChina (NYSE: PTR ) to spend $1 billion a year to develop shale resources there. Also, frackingspecialistsHaliburton (NYSE: HAL ) and Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB ) are partnering with various Chinese companies to supply the country with hydraulic fracturing equipment and specialty fluids.

At the same time, having an OPEC-type price controller would certainly limit how much the U.S. could potentially export at an economically feasible level. Gazprom signed a 30-year deal with PetroChina (NYSE: PTR ) that will supply the Chinese company with 3.7 billion cubic feet per day of gas starting in 2018, just about the same time when the majority of the other major LNG facilities around the world are expected to come on line. If Russia could get some of these natural gas exporting countries to sign on to this "OPEC of gas" idea, it could change the game.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Ben Levisohn]
In terms of specific company upside/downside payoffs, we believe that [Brookfield Residential Properties (BRP)], [KB Home], and [PulteGroup] offer above-average payoffs. We note that more than half of [Brookfield Residential Properties'] earnings are derived from Canada, dampening EPS sensitivity to our assumptions regarding the pace of the U.S. housing recovery. We believe that [KB Home] will achieve sharply improved operating performance, which should drive robust EPS growth given the company comparatively high degree of financial leverage. We also have a high degree of confidence that[PulteGroup] will continue to successfully execute against its goal of improving ROIC performance, which should act as a catalyst for share price appreciation.

The winds of change are blowing within the patent-enforcement world. If you don't believe it, just ask Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM), and Soverain Software LLC. All three companies recently found themselves on the losing end of a court decision - the appeals court, to be specific - that likely could have come out very differently were we in the patent-enforcement environment from just a couple of years ago. Things are a bit tougher for patent owners now. That change, however, may be a very good thing for patent-protection company Endeavor IP Inc. (OTCBB:ENIP) and ENIP shareholders.

While there's no denying that Vringo, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRNG) and VirnetX Holding Corporation (NYSEMKT:VHC) have made a big name for themselves - not to mention made big, even if uneven, gains for shareholder of VHC and VRNG - within the worked of intellectual property enforcement, bigger isn't always better. Smaller companies in the IP arena have a focus and flexibility that larger players like VirnetX and Vringo could never enjoy. Take, for instance, Endeavor IP Inc. (OTCBB:ENIP). This little patent owner may not look like much at first glance, but just ask the four organizations that have already entered licensing deals with ENIP and/or the four, well, now five companies that are currently litigating against Endeavor IP.... this little outfit packs a huge punch.
